Notary is VSI's version of the HP Binary checker - the software that verifies VSI-signed kit signatures.  Unlike the HP tool which is shipped as a separate kit, the Notary is part of the base OS.  It's one of the components upgraded to use SSL 1.0.2H.

(We still ship the HP kit, rebranded for installation on VSI versions, just in case there's third-party, HP-signed software that could run on a VSI version of the OS. Note that's more about licensing and support than software.  Anything that runs on V8.4 should run on any released VSI version.)
