Bart: this is from my default LOGIN.COM:

$! For example, you may wish to add a shortcut to an editor:
$!  E*DIT == "EDIT/EDT/COMMAND=SYS$LOGIN:EDTINI.EDT"

If I launch EDIT without this line in LOGIN.COM none of the keys is
defined i.e. EDTINI.EDT does not appear to be read.
