Nonsense. In Unix, stat() gives me the exact same number as the number 
of times I can call fgetc() to read one character. Try once more, and it 
fails. Totally consistent.

And I can also get the number of disk blocks allocated to a file in 
Unix, if I am interested in that, which will tell me how many bytes are 
used on the disk for the file.
