If you're stuck with host gear from this era, then scrounging an AUI to 
10BASE-T twisted-pair "transceiver" is probably going to be the 
preferred approach here.   That'd be the DEC DESTA or ilk for folks 
requiring hardware authenticity, though any compatible AUI-to-TP widget 
should work fine.
