That box should be able to boot a firmware CD.

here, as the sequence involving mkboot was not what that referenced 
document suggested for the AlphaServer DS10 series SRM console failsafe 
loader (FSL) sequence.   See page 447.   Otherwise maybe scrounge a 
2.88 MB floppy drive and try that?
