We at VSI wear many hats. Some of them get shoved onto our heads. For
example, none of us really knew DECnet V. But there are customers who
use it and we have to support it. I drew the short straw so I had to
figure out how to build, test and support it, from a bunch of backup
images from HP.
If none of us know X, but we have to do X, we learn X.
To get something like MariaDB or other such freeware onto VMS, the
managers have to be convinced that doing so will sell more VMS, and to
the extent it's worth taking someone's time away from important stuff like
X86, the 64 bit file system etc.
I am not saying it's not a good idea, just that VSI is not ZK3-4 with its
many occupants.
