Not true on OpenVMS.  Our Pascal has lots of useful extensions (but not OOP) that made it popular with many customers.  I can easily name several customers today with at least 10 million lines of Pascal code.  I gotta worry about them too just like all the BASIC customers (and I know several customers with millions of lines of BASIC).

When I gave my "elevator speech" at the LLVM conference about hooking our frontends to LLVM, I get the most shock at the mention of actually having a working BASIC compiler that is used for actual production code.
