I realize that this is an OpenVMS forum but there are a lot of people lurking here who work on surplus Itanium and/or Alpha hardware. I just came into some surplus rx2660 servers and was looking for a flavor of Linux which would allow me to play with the latest version of MariaDB-10, and that turned out to be something called Gentoo. While I was looking at the various supported technologies I discovered that Gentoo still supports Alpha. On top of this, apparently Gentoo has been chosen to run in the Tesla automobile.

I would appreciate learning from others if they can point me to any better version of Linux.

p.s. okay, stop rolling around on the floor ...
