I really don't understand why you feel this way about x86. To me, it's so far down the technology stack that it's almost akin to complaining about your power supply. Could
you imagine someone telling you that 120V is the best and 220V is just not right?

Or to put it differently, when I hear you say "you need a non-X86 platform", I hear you 
say "you need to be the weird one". VMS has been weird for so long for so many that
it would be best served by doing everything it can to be less weird.
