I'm basically lazy ....

I've thought of implementing a FAL using sockets ....

Did I mention, I'm lazy?  It would be a lot of work, and the first thing that 
would happen is criticism of the decisions I'd have made.  So, why bother?  At 
least as long as DECnet is available ....
