That screen was where I started from. One thing I noticed is if I type
in a six-character password and go back to the screen later, it always
resets to eight characters. There is also a "Default" button that fills
in a 8-character password with blank username. Maybe that 8-character
password is what it is expecting, no matter what was attempted to
configure, but I do not know what the 8 characters are.
It is beginning to look like it may be broken on OS 9; I will try it on
OS 7 too.
