Why would they?  LLVM has demonstrated that they don't
put development of LLVM first and so anything in order
to attempt to keep LLVM afloat at this point is a risk
and may lead to capital destruction for those who decide
to continue or even increase funding of it.

To me it would seem more sensible for Apple to attempt
to fork it and hire people, like the developer who quit
LLVM, rather than to pump money into the official LLVM
project.  That is, if Apple still has enough faith in
its future at this point.
