That is not really what they are discussing.
VAX C 3.x is a very old C compiler (non-ANSI), with some
very frustrating features.
DEC C 4.x/5.x/6.x is the replacement. Still old but at least
ANSI compliant.
But all VMS and unrelated to Unix.
