Gerard has made excellent progress on getting his own version of GNAT
running on Itanium, but it depended on him being able to start with
a paid commercial GNAT Pro compiler for VMS Alpha and having most of
the bits already in place (because Adacore had already done the work
to port GNAT Pro to VMS Itanium).

This isn't the case for VMS on x86-64 because work will need to be
done to actually port gcc to x86-64 for VMS.

BTW, I received some information recently which strongly implies that
my efforts to get FSF GNAT running on VMS Alpha (instead of Adacore's
paid GNAT Pro compiler) were never going to succeed because it appears
not all the required VMS bits exist in the FSF GCC code base.

Oh, well. At least it was an interesting exercise.
