It was a rather logical statement at the time.

And I also guess that the then current VAX-Basic probably was
"better" than the more common Basic's available at the time.

But, it was you that asked who he was, so one has to
assume that you didn't know who he is.

A carpenter will have a harder time becoming good if using
bad tools and it is easier to learn using good/right tools.
