I referenced multi-version Rdb as an example of an installer that
allows multiple versions.

Rdb is certainly an example of an installer that permits parallel
installations.

Rdb does arrive with documentation of how to install Rdb, too.

Rdb does not arrive with documentation around how to *construct* a
multi-version installation kit, whether Rdb or otherwise.

You have pointed to some documentation for a kit that I had
acknowledged as a multi-version kit, and a design that works pretty
well.

However, you did not reference design and implementation documentation
for a multi-version kit, whether PCSI or VMSINSTAL or otherwise.

Distinct from Rdb, there's ample evidence that there have been folks
creating kits have tried and have encountered issues with their
designs, too.

Yes, in the absence of design and implementation documentation, having
some familiarity with an example is valuable.

There's a hole here in the OpenVMS kitting documentation.

There's are related holes in the OpenVMS application design
documentation around supporting upgrades in our apps, supporting
cluster rolling upgrades in our apps, and better supporting app
availability.
