Do not blame SAP for this. Blame the idiots that install it.

SAP customization is not cheap. In fact, doing it right is likely more
expensive than just writing new custom code. But it -can- be done right
if you're willing to put the money in and ignore the idiots who tell you
to change your business processes because it's too difficult to change SAP.
Even when those idiots are billing you $300/hr to tell you that.
