Your "show disks" seems to imply that the controller doesn't care about the drive make / model string. In that case, you could do a "set drive capacity" command (which differs for SAS and SATA - looking these up is left as an exercise for the reader) on one or both devices so that they have the same number of logical blocks.

If the issue is truly SAS vs. SATA, you can get interposer cards (single-port SAS-controller-to-SATA-drive adapter) for the SATA drives in the set and the controller will then see them as SAS. These interposers are common on systems that have expander backplanes, since that can lead to gratuitous "resets for everybody!" when one drive experiences an error. Dell HP592 interposers are inexpensive on eBay ($4.95 with free shipping - I just checked).
