The problem is in WEENDOZE. The USB is an FTDI chip. When I plug in the
altimeter, WEENDOZE proclaims a new device. Then, WEENDOZE claims that
it's gone. Then, it proclaims a new device. Lather, rinse, repeat. All
of this is before ever launching the software to download any data.

I can plug the same altimeter into my Mac, my linux systems and even my
Itanium, and see the USB. It's pretty simple being that the FTDI chip is
for RS232. The only thing I do not know is its communication protocol/-
handshake to download the data.

Another altimeter company provides WEENDOZE and Mac OSX software for its
altimeter interface to download flight data. I asked of its manufacturer
and I received a Linux version too; albeit, the manufacturer won't support
it.

These altimeters are fairly complex devices that use both barometric and
acceleromeric sensors to control and record flight. Flying high power
can easily break Mach, so there's complex aerodynamics that need to also
be considered. Therefore, I do NOT believe these issues are the flight
computer. ;) I've had myriad successful miles high flights using this
one altimeter. It's sad that I can't access its recorded flight data,
so I fly an additional recording-only altimeter. The latter unit uses
bluetooth, so I can even download its data to my Android tablet.
