Interesting. I would say that it is better style to leave off the trailing apostrophe in order to reduce clutter. It is certainly documented that the trailing apostrophe is optional outside of string literals. It's not required in string literals except at the end. I don't have access to the doc set to read the official rules.
I agree, though, that always including the trailing apostrophe means that you don't have to worry about the rules.
