I think it's entirely reasonable if you want to code the trailing apostrophe all the time. I'm used to substitution facilities that never have a trailing substitution indicator (e.g., assemblers), so my tendency is the other way.

That works? Well, that's just a bug that should be fixed. Of course, now that would be backward incompatible.
