That's telnet printing onto the printer raw port; onto the PDL or PCL
or TCP port 9100 port. A little unusual, but the Brother is clearly
dealing. I'd tend to expect TCP 23, or LPR into LPD on TCP 515, but
this works.

Port Scanning host: {Brother MFC}

	 Open TCP Port: 21 ftp
	 Open TCP Port: 23 telnet
	 Open TCP Port: 25 smtp
	 Open TCP Port: 80 http
	 Open TCP Port: 515 printer
	 Open TCP Port: 631 ipp
	 Open TCP Port: 9100 hp-pdl-datastr
Port Scan has completed…

The whole of OpenVMS printing is archaic.

The addition of IPP support with VSI IP MultiNet support will
definitely be beneficial for printing.

MultiNet also has support for mDNS and which can be used to detect and
evaluate printers on the local network. Where some future printer
configuration and control tool can show you the local printers, and can
offer to preconfigure the selected printer.

CUPS support has been requested once or twice before, as well. That'd
effectively replace most of the existing printing subsystem, including
DECprint Supervisor (DCPS).
