Just like the line printer bands and chains always used to have
mashed-flat asterisks from printing all the banner pages.  :)

It's called HyPLOT, and lets you put arbitrary characters at arbitrary
locations on the page, with a resolution of 1/120" horizontally and
1/48" vertically.
