Well, several things to consider.

As was mentioned in the video, the new file system was already a work in 
progress, and all VSI needs to do is finish it.  Maybe quicker than 
starting over.

I don't know the legal status of the ZFS file system, but if it is 
covered by that license that (as I understand it) demands that anything 
that includes the software must also be free.  I don't think VSI can use 
anything like that.
