The problem with more recent DECWindows such as CDE is that it allocates
colours at both top and bottom of the hardware colour table, and hence the
application software can not allocate sufficient graphics planes for its
requirements. Motif V1.1 only allocates colours at one end, so the app can
still use a contiguous set of planes.
X server logs don’t seem to have anything interesting. I plan to enable
accounting and look at the finishing status of detached processes.
Any other ideas welcomed.
