I guess this is the prerequisite which is easiest to achieve.

Today, you can run maybe a dozen emulated VAX instances on a single 
ProLiant, with better CPU and I/O performance than the fastest physical 
VAX models ever. I'm sure Stromasys would be open to an agreement which 
is advantageous to both sides.

IIRC one of the biggest effort before the first released IA64 build 
(ignoring testing, another huge effort) was rebranding. As VAX and IA64 
don't share as much code as Alpha and IA64, this might require quite 
some work for the VAX again.
