It does with VMSMail on DECnet.  Hit Send and you don't see the MAIL> prompt
until the mail is either delivered or you got an error message stating the
node is not reachable or whatever.

[not counting addons like NMAIL to (eventually) deliver mail to a node that 
seems to be gone for a while]

Of course as abrsvc points out the real problem wasn't undelivered email but
email mistakenly directed to a spam folder.
