That's not because they aren't interested, it's because they can't afford
it.  When I was a kid you could buy a J-3 for about the cost of a VW and
fly it out of a small regional airport without paying any landing fees.
Now the cost of getting a private pilot's license alone is insanely high
more because of the cost of aircraft time than the cost of instructor's
fees.
But you'll notice lots and lots of kids flying UAVs, because they can afford
that.
