New vs old is sometimes a fuzzy discussion.
Very few things are totally new as a concept.
But even if they are not totally new then they can still
transform the entire IT industry and how it works.
The ideas behind devops are certainly not new, but the
scale it is done and the tooling to support it has
evolved dramatically.
In 2015 Amazon passed 50 millions software deployments per year.
They are probably over 100 by now.
