No one can "recall" 7.3-2 clustering with 9.2 because 9.2 doesn't exist
yet, nor is the documentation Camiel pointed out relevant for clustering
x86_64 VMS with HPE versions since the x86_64 version doesn't exist yet.
  (You did state that preparing to include x86_64 in your home cluster
was the goal.)  As far as I have heard, you will need to upgrade to VSI
VMS on your existing Alpha systems first, and then either apply ECOs to
the 8.4-x version or upgrade to 9.2 if you want them to cluster with
x86_64 VMS 9.2.  The HPE releases will obviously not be getting ECOs
that would allow them to cluster with VSI VMS v9.2.
