Sorry, I meant "others recall it being mentioned that 7.3-2 should
work".

Right, VSI Alpha will cluster with VSI X86. But the important point is
that DEC/Compaq/HP(E) Alpha can cluster with VSI Alpha, so I can do a
rolling upgrade to VSI Alpha, then a rolling upgrade (which of course
will be a fresh install, but the cluster is upgraded in a rolling
manner) to x86.
