Given that VSI has not made a survey among VMS users and published the
result then we don't have an actual percentage.
But we do know a few things that makes it likely that Rdb are a big
item in the VMS world. We just don't know what "big" means in
percentage.
1)
Most applications need persistence.
Systems doing the persistence and the associated searches are usually
the biggest and most expensive systems in a solution.
The options for persistence are a bit limited on VMS. RMS
index-sequential files and Rdb are the two most obvious. MySQL/MariaDB
and SQLite are available, but I do not see many VMS users have them
as primary database. Oracle DB known as Oracle Classic in the
VMS world is AFAIK only available for VMS in older versions, so
a lot of them must have migrated off VMS by now.
2)
In the very small sample of I-V/c.o.v users then there are
several Rdb users.
