In addition to the advice you have received about using standalone
backup and doing an /IMAGE backup (both of which are mandatory if you
want a usable system disk afterwards), you also need to do a /VERIFY
pass when performing both the backup and the restore otherwise you
have no way of knowing if you have a good backup.

If you are using a real tape drive, make sure you make at least two
copies of the backup so you have at least one extra copy if something
goes wrong during the restore, especially if you are overwriting the
original system disk at some point in the future.
