Yeah; re-running POST was the usual way to get that fault to clear.

Hot-plugging the EMU might re-run that, but I'm loathe to try that on a 
production server.

There was supposedly an EMU user's manual around, but I've not 
encountered that.

And if a site can't survive a power-cycle, the site probably wants to 
invest in upgrades and/or spares.

(And FWIW, purple supposedly indicated hot-swappable parts on DEC gear, 
not that I've seen that widely referenced.)
