That depends on the jurisdiction and possible the context.

In Denmark shops are legally required to accept cash
0600-2200 (6 AM to 10 PM) - 0600-2000 (6 AM to 8 PM) in
areas with high crime rates. Shops are forbidden to
accept more than 50000 DKKK (approx. 7000 USD) in cash.

I am sure other countries got different rules.
