Nigel,

did you know, that you can download a working OpenVMS Alpha V8.4-2L2 test system from:

https://training.vmssoftware.com/hobbyist/

It includes the FreeAXP Alpha emulator and an OpenVMS V8.4-2L2 system disk with temporary licenses. It needs to be installed and run under Windows.

I configured a CHARON-VAX emulator into the LANCP database and tried to boot it via > B EZA0. Should work the same with simh ...

LANCP> SHOW LOG shows this:
...
19-JAN-2021 10:34:41.16 Could not respond to load request on EWA0 from CHASAT,
file not found
    Requested file: LAN$DLL:[SYSCOMMON.SYSLIB]NISCS_LOAD.EXE
...
LANCP> show dll

STUDNT LAN DLL Status (19-JAN-2021 10:35:22.26):
EWA0 enabled in exclusive mode for all requests, data size 246 bytes
  EWB0 disabled

#Loads Packets Bytes Last load time Last loaded
       ------ ------- ----- -------------------- -----------------
  EWA0 0 6 234
  EWB0 0 0 0

$ mc lancp sho node

STUDNT Node Listing, volatile database (19-JAN-2021 10:40:53.71):
  (Catchall entry):
  CHASAT (00-15-17-9F-EF-12):
    DLL: Load file: (None specified)
          Load root: (None specified)
          Boot type: VAX satellite
             11 loads requested, 0 volunteered
             0 succeeded, 0 failed
              429 bytes, 11 packets, 0 transmit failures

 Totals:
    Requests received 11
    Requests volunteered 0
    Successful loads 0
    Failed loads 0
    Packets sent 0
    Packets received 11
    Bytes sent 0
    Bytes received 429

This at least proves, that LANCP MOP on this version of OpenVMS Alpha seems to work as expected.

Volker.
