That is a generic discussion of incrementally migrating data and/or
apps off of OpenVMS, or of migrating customers off of OpenVMS entirely.
Which is the business that Sector7 is in.
OpenVMS apps and environments can continue to work, as Sector7 has
tools and apps and frameworks that allow that app re-hosting onto
Linux, and with relatively fewer app modifications required; with an
easier re-hosting path.
Think of this as an OpenVMS app container running on a Linux host or
Linux guest, and the tooling and services to get your app into that
container, and you'll have the general idea of what Sector7 offers.
Existing OpenVMS Oracle Classic customers are headed for a migration,
and each site will be deciding on the scale of and the platform and app
targets of that migration.
That migration might target OpenVMS x86-64 and Oracle Rdb, or to
MariaDB, MIMER, maybe SQLite, etc., on OpenVMS.
Or that migration might be data re-hosted to Linux and remotely
accessed on PostgreSQL or Oracle Classic or another database located
else-platform.
Or that migration might be an incremental platform port of data and
apps to Linux.
Etc.
TL;DR: VSI would like to keep those customers with OpenVMS apps and
Oracle Classic dependencies on OpenVMS, and to preferably re-host them
onto OpenVMS x86-64. Sector7 would like to acquire and re-host those
customers.
