Well this announcement will prevent us from ever migrating to x86-64.  We use Oracle classic(client only); we moved the actually database from OpenVMS to Linux 4-5 years ago because of lack of support on OpenVMS.  The application is being rewritten off of OpenVMS but porting to x86-64 was a backup plan in case it got delayed.   Now that is off the table, granted it was a last resort anyway!  We have migrated from VAX to Alpha to Itanium with little effort in the past.
