I don't knock older kit or ideas, because work done back then formed
the foundations for what was done later. In the case of DEC, it wasn't
just their hardware and os that garnered respect, but the rigorous
attention to detail, which is what really differentiates global
class product from the average. May not have had much to do with VMS
for a long time, but wouldn't be posting here if there was no interest
in it's future. Good engineering is about ethics in the end, which
means being honest about the limitations, as well as the strengths. Only
then can you build and sell the best products.
