Born in 1958.

First programs in Algol on a B5500, until it got sold.
Then no programming for some years.

Last two weeks of 8th grade, our teacher arranged for
about 10 of us to learn Fortran at the school district office.
(About one hour each day.)

8th grade graduation present was the IBM OS/360 Fortran manual,
and wrote some Fortran programs during the summer and following
school year. Not so much later, PL/I programming, mostly learned
reading IBM manuals. OS/360 Assembly programming by the
end of 10th grade, learned from reading the generated code from
the compilers, and IBM reference manuals. Also, I had the source
to the Fortran library, though not the best example to learn from.

In college, we had TOPS-10 on a KA-10, my first introduction
to DEC systems. By senior year, it was replaced with VAX/VMS,
I believe version 1.x. The beginning of my interest in VMS, and
why I follow this group. Some Macro-10 programming, though
not a lot of it. More Fortran programming.

Not so much later, working with a TOPS-20 system, until it got
replaced with VAX/VMS systems. Also working with Unix
and C, and also TeX and Metafont.
