Bloody hell. :-(

I didn't know that things were that bad. :-(

For me, what I am looking for from a vaccine is to not die or to suffer
long-term health damage that stops me from doing the outdoor things I do.

If I only get partial protection from one dose but neither of the above
happen if I do catch the virus while waiting for the second dose, then
I consider that to be a major success.

Even after the second dose, I am regarding the vaccine as an insurance
policy that stops those more severe things from happening, not some magic
cure that means I never have to worry about the virus again.

That means I still intend to take some precautions even after the second
dose, because like with a normal insurance policy, you don't want to be
in a position where you have to use that insurance policy.

I also really, really, do not want to be the one to give this virus to
other people.

After all the government screwups which resulted in far more people dying
than needed to die, the vaccine contracts and financial support to the
manufacturers as well as various guarantees are at least one thing the
UK government got right.

Simon.
