I've mentioned before, I greatly prefer a new install.  You can retain your
old start-up command file(s) ((SYSTARTUP_VMS.COM)) and compare them against
the new files.  I've discarded a few things in the new startup procedure
when I didn't like them.  Good practice.

I also use a new, well, currently available, disk, and keep the old disk,
just in case.  You trust your mother, but you still cut the deck, right?
