In case the command used helps any, the pdf2ps shell script from
whatever version of ghostscript is installed on a handy linux box
(9.55.0) follows.

Obviously the -sDEVICE setting won't work for the OP, based on other
comments in this thread.

In particular, the "-c save pop" bit looks like something that might
be worth trying, though.
