Related to this, it is dismaying to discover how many people, even
supposed professionals, continue to use Microsoft Excel to do
statistical analysis. And suffer the bugs therefrom, often without
even noticing. This came to a head when the decision was made some
years ago, in the genetics community, to change the official names of
some genes, just to avoid Excel continually trying to interpret them
as dates.

any more intelligently nowadays. The answer seems to be no.
