Think of it this way: there are maybe half a dozen BSD variants still in 
active development. There are something like 50× that number of Linux 
distros similarly under active development. Yet it is easier to move 
between Linux distros than it is to move between BSD variants.

That’s what I mean by “diversity” versus “fragmentation”. Do you see 
“fragmentation” as an asset, not a liability?
