I was (not unexpectedly) disappointed in the coverage of our National
Convention. It was simply a sad testimonial of how the general public views our
activity.

It started with Jay announcing this spoof as being at the National Square
Dance 'Competition' and only a brief reference was made to the fact that folks
came from all 50 states and numerous foreign countries. Unfortunately, the
interviewer felt the only way to make this piece funny was to bring sexiual
inuendo into most interviews. The glimpse of a hairy-legged cross-dresser in a
square dance skirt certainly didn't help.

The only funny comment I heard was from a lady dancer who, when asked what
dress size she wore answered, 'Fat'.

The interviewer even had to bring in racial overtones while talking to a
nice looking black man (unfortunately wearing a T-shirt and a hat) by asking him
if he knew he was black and implying that none of these white people would
dance with him.

The scenes of her struggling through a square dance were a poorly edited
depiction of a non-dancer. What a surprise when she exclaims, "I've got it"
after finally mastering that difficult call, "Circle Left".

The payoff came with the potrayal of her seemingly being bodily thrown to
the floor. That was a definate cheap shot. Slap stick comedy came to a new low -
please, fade to Jay Leno in Hollywood.

All in all, I seriously doubt that Jay's audience will consider this as any
more than two minutes of ho-hum Leno.
