I realize this was not the point of the reviewer's comment, and I
haven't yet seen the bit, but I am seriously curious to know why one
reviewer said that it was "unfortunate" that one of the interviewees was
wearing a t-shirt and a hat.

Seems to me showing a person in ordinary street clothes would be a
positive thing, so far as clothes go.  Again, I realize that was not the
point of the reviewer's comment.
