Thanks for the correction.  I don't remember all of the details, but:

In the very early days of DECUServe (~~ 22 years ago), membership in DECUS 
US Chapter was required.  I don't remember DECUS US membership costing 
anything, but perhaps DECUServe was a separate charge.  I have a vague 
memory of DECUS Canada charging.  And the historical versions of the 
subscription renewal .COM file have a section to renew via credit card. 
[Note: unsecured, etc. etc.]

After DECUS (gently) kicked DECUServe out of their system [Approx. April 
1994, as I recall] - there was no mechanism to charge.

So, those with longer memories are invited to share the early details.
