The AlphaServer DS10L is a 1U rack-mount model (no rack required).
It's 19" wide, 1.75" high, and about 23" deep. I bought mine on eBay
for under $150, if I remember correctly. That included 1gb of memory,
an 18gb internal disk, and a CD-ROM/floppy drive.

The rx2600 Integrity systems are 2U high, 19" wide, and about 28"
deep. They sell on eBay for about $175 with 10gb of memory. Disk
drive and CD-ROM not included.

These are both small enough to fit on a deep wire shelf in a garage or
apartment. Or on a desk hidden under a pile of books and papers. :-)

Finding or making the time to work with them is a different problem,
and one which I suspect nobody can solve for you.
