Actually, elevators do care about the date and time. They are programmed
to behave differently depending on day/time of week in large buildings.

They have different behaviour depending on time of day, cater to
cleaning crews at night and on weekends etc.

Same thing for modern escalators which may be programmed for constant
operation during peak hours, and on-demand operations outside of normal
hours.

And that is what was needed to get everyone to check their systems to
ensure that they would not be affected. It is called due diligence.

If australian kids don't all die of skin cancer, is it because the
warnings about sun and skin cancer is just hype, or is it because the
hype has caused parents to take preventive measures which has resulted
in preventing the very problems they were warned about ?

Same with H1N1.
